Loyalty motion referred to St. Catharines integrity commissioner

A motion calling for elected officials in St. Catharines to be loyal to residents and not to have "unconflicted loyalty" to the boards or commissions they are appointed to has been referred to the city's Integrity Commissioner.

Councillor Joe Kushner brought forward the motion at council,  after the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority considered asking its board members for "unconflicted loyalty" in a revised code of conduct.

Kushner calling the move offensive, adding it stifles debate.

NPCA board member and Regional Councillor Bruce Timms says the board will discuss dropping the proposed oath at a meeting later this month.
