Mewburn Road bridge to be replaced
Niagara on the Lake residents will finally have another route to take to get to Niagara Falls and vice versa.
After years of discussion, CN Rail has finally decided to double its financial contribution toward a Mewburn Road replacement bridge.
The bridge was closed in 2009 over safety concerns.
But CN, which owns the bridge, would only commit to building a new narrow bridge that local officials argued would not meet current traffic needs.
So after years of talks, CN has finally agreed to spend $1.5 million toward a new span.
Niagara on the Lake and the city of Niagara Falls will also contribute funds to the project.
