Mom of Port Colborne teen involved in hate crime speaking out
Two Port Colborne families are speaking out after they were involved in what Niagara Police are investigating as a hate crime.
It started with a break in back on February 15th; when police investigated they found someone had spray painted a racist message on the wall in their daughter's room.
Ruby is 16 and white, her boyfriend Jayden is black.
The couple are both in Grade 10 at Lakeshore Catholic high school in Port Colborne.
Jayden's mom Shannon says the incident has been devastating for her son, seeing a drastic change in him since then.
Niagara Police are investigating the incident which they are treating as a hate crime, there are no suspects at this point.
