NIAGARA CENTRE | NDP Jeff Burch elected to serve Niagara Centre

The riding of Niagara Centre will remain in NDP hands.

In Thursday night's election the NDP's Jeff Burch, a former St.Catharines city councillor and Executive Director of the Folk Arts Festival beating his closest opponent Wainfleet Mayor April Jeffs who ran for the PC Party.

Benoit Mercier also ran in the riding under the Liberals.

Burch now takes over for NDP MPP Cindy Forster who announced she would not be seeking re-election in the riding.

She has represented the riding since 2011, following the death of MPP Peter Kormos.

The Niagara Centre riding consists of Welland, parts of St.Catharines, Thorold, and Port Colborne. 

Burch joining CKTB saying he ran an old fashioned campaign of knocking on doors and meeting with local residents.

He has already expressed interest to manage a number of ministries for the NDP's.

He says his son, and his father are his inspiration to run for the job.

Burch says he wants a better future for his 10 year old son, and his father who was a victim of 'hallway medicine'.
