Niagara has second highest number of ER opioid visits in province
The Niagara Region has the second highest number of emergency room visits due to opioid poisoning in the province.
The only city/region to post a higher number is Brantford.
Numbers from the Canadian Insistitute for Health Information say for every 100,000 people the Niagara region has 72.5 opiod visits to the ER.
The report also found overall there has been a 53 per cent increase in hospitalizations nationwide from opioids over the last decade.
The fastest growing age group is 15 to 24.
