Niagara Regional Council extends NPCA board's term

Niagara Regional Council have voted to extend the appointments of twelve councillors on the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority Board.

Councillors Bylsma, Chiocchio, Foster, Gibson, Greenwood, Heit, Insinna, Jordan, Steele, Whalen, and Zalepa will remain on the board for another three months.

The vote passed with only Welland Mayor Frank Campion and St. Catharines Councillor Laura Ip opposed.

The new term ends on June 6th

Shortly before that, Council debated whether the citizen appointees recommended by Fort Erie, St. Catharines, Welland, and Grimsby should be immediately appointed to the board.

Some councillors argued that it wouldn't be fair as other municipalities have not had time to select their appointees.

That amendment to the motion was defeated.

Interim NPCA CAO Gayle Wood begins her position tomorrow, March 1st.

She will be joining the NPCA for a period of 5 months.
