Niagara's jobless rate inches up

The national jobless rate is down after the economy added around 80, 000 part time jobs.

The rate fell from 6 percent in August to 5.9 percent last month.

Stats Canada says September's gains were seen almost entirely in Ontario and British Columbia, largely in construction, with little change in the other provinces.

Those job gains, however, weren't enough in Ontario to lower the unemployment rate.

Last month's number rose to 5.9 percent from 5.7 percent the month before.

Niagara's rate also increased marginally and now stands at 7.5 percent.
