Niagara under winter storm warning

Niagara is bracing for a major winter storm.

Yesterday's special weather statement is now a storm warning as a low pressure system pushes towards the Great Lakes.

We are expecting rain tonight, but that's going to change to snow through the evening -- meteorologists warn of the potential for 15 to 30 cm by late Friday morning.

With the winds kicking up to 60 km/h, blowing snow could also severely reduce visibility on the roads tonight and for tomorrow morning's commute.

Environment Canada is advising people stay off the roads tonight.

Public Safety Canada encourages everyone to make an emergency plan and get an emergency kit with drinking water, food, medicine, a first-aid kit and a flashlight.
