NRP looking for suspicious man after reports of pedestrian swinging a hatchet at a pickup

Police are looking for a man after reports of a pedestrian swinging what appeared to be a hatchet at a passing vehicle in Port Colborne.

Officials with the NRP say officers and the Canine Unit searched an area near Highway 3 and Killaly Street on Saturday afternoon around 4:30 p.m. but they could not find the man.

According to the report, a pickup truck moved to the left to create space for the pedestrian walking eastbound along the north shoulder of the road before the man moved toward the truck and took a swing.

The man didn't make contact with the truck, and continued to walk eastbound before walking south and entering a field along the roadway.

Police describe the suspect as white, 40 to 50 years old with a medium build. He was wearing a black toque, a dark brown baggy jacket and pants.

Anyone with information relating to this incident is asked to call 6 District-Niagara Regional Police Service at 905-688-4111 Extension 3200 or Crimestoppers.
