Ontario increasing eligibility threshold for legal aid
Ontario is increasing the financial eligibility threshold for legal aid by another six per cent effective on Saturday.
The provincial government says about 140-thousand more people will be eligible to receive the legal services they need under the change.
It says it's investing almost 67-million dollars this year to help Legal Aid Ontario provide services in areas such as criminal, family, immigration, mental health and poverty law.
It adds it is now more than halfway to meeting its 2014 commitment to expand access to services provided by legal aid to an additional one-million Ontarians in ten years.
