OPSEU launches online petition as College teachers vote on possible strike
As Ontario college teachers go the polls today in a strike vote, OPSEU has launched an online petition demanding the province do more to improve the teaching and learning environment at community colleges.
The petition says teachers have been excluded from decision making and schools have becoming increasingly reliant on an unstable, precarious part time workforce.
It also blames government underfunding and poor decision making by administrators for tense relations between management and faculty.
The petition demands the province increase funding to provide equal pay for all faculty, and create more full time jobs to create a stable learning environment.
It also asks for the creation of an Academic Senate, so that faculty and not administrators, determine course methods and materials.
The petition can be found at http://www.collegefaculty.org/petition.
