Ottawa won't tax retail worker discounts

The federal government is scrambling to assure retail workers their employee discounts won't be taxed, after a Canada Revenue Agency document suggested they would.
   
 Political rivals and business groups have voiced concerns that new wording in a government document could lead to higher taxes on retail workers.

But the office of the national revenue minister says the updated C-R-A guidance document was only intended to help employers understand their tax-reporting requirements.
