PC government to scrap basic income program - overhauling social assistance programs

The PC government has announced that it is overhauling Ontario's social assistance programs.

Minister Lisa MacLeod says the government will spend the next 100 days to put together a new program.

Until then, recipients of the Ontario Works and Ontario Disability Support Program will receive a 1.5 per cent cost of living increase.

MacLeod says the government is also going to wind down the basic income research project.
