Pelham starts gypsy moth control program

People in Pelham may notice planes overhead this month and into early June as part of an effort to control the gypsy moth population.

Trees Unlimited will be working with Zimmer Air to cover 165 acres of property with a spray program.

Homes that fall within the spraying area will get a notice in the mail, but there is not an option to opt in or out of the program.

Officials will be using a biological insecticide which only affects spring caterpillars in the upper canopy of hardwood trees.

The spray will not hurt other bugs, birds, animals, or humans.
