Police continue to investigate death of St. Catharines senior
Today marks the eighth anniversary of the death of Livia Beirnes and Niagara police are appealing to the community for information.
Emergency crews were called to the 74-year-old's Oakwood Avenue just before 9:00 p.m. on Aug. 4, 2010. after a report of a fire.
While neighbours attempted to help, Beirnes could be heard shouting for help from the basement of the home.
She was unable to escape because she was tied up.
Beirnes was located by firefighters but succumbed to her injuries in hospital the following day.
Detectives are appealing to members of the community who may have information to come forward. This is the only unsolved homicide in Niagara since 2010.
