'Silence Breakers' Time Magazine's Person of the Year
Time Magazine has announced the 2017 Person of the Year and it's not a 'person,' it's a movement.
After a year of bringing long held secrets to light, the magazine has named 'Silence Breakers' as their Person of the Year.
The article praises movie stars, musicians, activists, and every day people for stepping forward and sharing very personal, and at times troubling, stories.
The anti-harassment movement #MeToo highlighted the prevalence of sexual misconduct following allegations of sexual harassment and assault in Hollywood and beyond.
Millions of people shared their stories on social media using the hashtag, encouraging others to come forward and speak openly about the global issue.
Emblazoned across the magazine's cover 'The Silence Breakers' sits under the Person of the Year Banner, acknowledging that although the movement aimed to break the long held silence on the issue, it went by many different names around the world including #BalanceTonPorc, #YoTambien, #Ana_kaman.
The movement beat out US President Donald Trump, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, and former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
