Six year old dies after falling through ice on Alberta canal
The Family Day holiday in Alberta turned tragic Monday afternoon in Airdrie, where two young brothers fell through the ice on a canal in the Bayside neighbourhood.
Mounties say firefighters were able to get both boys out of the water, but the six-year-old was pronounced dead after arriving by air ambulance to Alberta Children's Hospital in Calgary.
His 10-year-old brother remains in serious condition, but is expected to recover.
Police say the recent mild weather has made for unsafe conditions on small bodies of water.
Over the weekend a 68 year old Hamitlon man died after falling in the water while fishing in a pond in Waterford.
