St. Catharines mayor fears for jobs in wake of U.S. tariff decision
A call from the Mayor of St. Catharines to politicians of all stripes to band together to fight the new U.S. tariffs on steel and aluminium imports from Canada.
Walter Sendzik says the tariffs are going to have a big impact on his city as well as neighbouring Hamilton.
Sendzik points out companies are moving from steel to aluminium in terms of production of automobiles because aluminium is lighter.
He says there are some firms in St. Catharines that are growing their capacity on aluminium and now this comes out.
The mayor adding this will cost jobs.
Sendzik notes, say what you will about Kathleen Wynne, she came out strong after the U.S. announced those tariffs and he would like to see the same from the NDP's Andrea Horvath and the P.C.'s Doug Ford.
