St. Catharines teacher wins Prime Minister's Award for Teaching Excellence

A teacher from Holy Cross Catholic Secondary School in St. Catharines is being recognized for her compassion with a Prime Minister's Award for Teaching Excellence.

Catherine Chin Yet has helped special education students find a creative voice through photography, arranged a citizenship ceremony at the school, and transformed a class assignment into an full exhibition at a local museum.

She also leads the school's photography and art auction in support of children's mental health services, founded a mental health team, and spurred on a campaign to successfully prevent the deportation of one of the school's families.
