Street closures planned for Open Streets St. Catharines
Everyone is invited to take a stroll through St. Catharine's downtown for the inaugural Open Streets St. Catharines event.
From noon until 5 p.m. on Sunday St. Paul St. will be closed to vehicular traffic from Carlisle to Ontario and James St. will be closed from St. Paul to King allowing participants to roam freely between various attractions.
Co-Founder and Executive Director of Open Streets St. Catharines Warren Byzanko says they are trying to promote active living, healthy lifestyles, and highlight local businesses.
"Everything is free and there's nothing for sale. Again we're trying to be as open and inclusive as possible and we're trying to find as many ways to promote active living and healthy livestyles in our local community."
Byzanko hopes the free event will encourage people to try something new.
"Spend that money on lunch or on something to eat. Go out and explore one of the local businesses while you're downtown, while you're exploring the local community."
Special events will be happening throughout the afternoon including live music at The FirstOntario PAC Street Stage, fitness demos, and historic walking tours.
