Toronto community searches for PhD student missing since Thursday

Community members have launched a widespread search for a PhD student who has been missing since last week.

York Regional Police say 30-year-old Zabia Afzal was last seen in east-end Toronto on Thursday morning.

In an effort to help investigators find her, friends and family have posted signs and created social media pages.

On Sunday, searchers scoured the Scarborough Bluffs, the Toronto Islands and the Thorncliffe area.

They're asking anyone who may have seen Afzal to contact York police.

On Friday, officers in York region said their counterparts in Toronto were conducting ground and water searches for Afzal.
