Trump aims to cut plan to clean up Great Lakes

An initiative aimed at cleaning up the Great Lakes could be a casualty of a Trump administration plan to slash programs aimed at slowing climate change and improving water safety and
air quality.

A draft Environmental Protection Agency budget proposal obtained by the Associated Press lists the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative as one of the programs that would see budget
cuts.

The Great Lakes Restoration Initiative was launched in 2010 to accelerate efforts to protect and restore the Greak Lakes -- the largest system of fresh surface water in the world.

Combating harmful algal blooms in Lake Erie was among more than two thousand projects funded under the program.
