U-S side of Niagara Gorge to get million dollar retrofit
Can you imagine seeing the Niagara Gorge the way Father Hennepin did in the 17th century?
Well the Western New York Land Conservancy has a plan to restore the American side of the Gorge back to its natural splendor.
The Buffalo News reporting the conservancy will spend $1 million to restore the gorge.
The group envisions a gorge with bald eagles, hawks and raptors flying overhead, sturgeon spawning in the lower Niagara River and ancient species of vegetation growing on the gorge walls.
To realize their dream they have hired, renowned landscape designer Darrel Morrison who designed the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin, Texas to restore the natural vegetation along the river.
