Update: Fire causes extensive damage to Burlington building


No word on what caused a smokey fire in Burlington over the noon hour.

Firefighters called out to a roof fire  at the Atrium Banquet and Conference Centre on North Service Rd at Burloak Dr.

The blaze started during roof repair work on the building.

One roof worker was sent to hospital for smoke inhalation while another was assessed at the scene.

The building was evacuated.

The Atrium hosts activities like weddings and corporate events on the main floor with commercial office space above.

Traffic delays were report on the QEW from Bronte to Burloak due to structure fire.

OPP says the Ramp is also closed Fort Erie bound at Burloak. 

OPP Sgt Kerry Schmidt says roofers were working on the building when the tar caught fire, causing the thick smoke.
