Virgil Stampede goes ahead, wet condition force demolition derby cancellation

It's time for the annual Virgil Stampede.

While the weather forecast for the long weekend looks pretty good, all the rain has forced organizers to cancel a key event.

On the Stampede's Facebook page organizers write, "due to extremely wet weather both the Vendors Market and Demolition Derby have been cancelled, the rest of the Stampede is in full effect."

The festivities run Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Monday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The annual Victoria Day fireworks display gets underway Monday night at 9:30 p.m.
