Wainfleet prepares to pass exotic animal bylaw
A lion will be allowed to continue living in Wainfleet as the township prepares to pass an exotic animal bylaw.
The bylaw has been in the works since 2016 as council consulted with numerous stakeholders including the Welland and District SPCA and the owners of a local rescue housing several exotic animals.
Back in November, a resident caused a stir on social media by snapping a picture of a lioness from the Ringtail Ranch and Rescue, claiming it was loose on Wilson Road.
The Ranch owners vehemently denied the allegation, claiming they were with the lion and she was under their control the entire time.
Under the proposed bylaw, animals already in the township will be grandfathered in and owners of dangerous animal will need to take extra steps to ensure the safety of other residents and the animals.
