Wynne calls some executive pay hikes "unreasonably high"

Hours after Treasury Board President Liz Sandals defended proposed pay increases for public sector workers, the Premier announced she will reject the massive pay hikes.

Kathleen Wynne says every dollar of public money should be spent with good intention and with a clear rationale for it.

Wynne goes on to say agencies have to strike a balance between holding on to good people and reasonable pay.

The premier making the comments after Ontario Power Generation released its proposed compensation package for its top execs.

As it now stand 80 top brass would receive pay hikes totalling $8 million.

Earlier in the day, Sandals defended the proposed hikes saying  it takes exceptional people to run such a multi-billion-dollar corporation, and that these positions require high-level nuclear qualifications or business qualifications.
