Two new affordable housing complexes have been approved by City of Kawartha Lakes council.
The complexes would help to alleviate part of the shortage of available units for the approximate sixteen hundred households in the City and Haliburton on a waiting list for afforadble housing.
Kawartha Lakes Haliburton Housing Corporation gave a presentation to council on Monday to propose the two new affordable housing developments - one for Lindsay Street North and the other in the Hamilton Park area of Lindsay, as part of the Housing Asset Management Plan.
At the Hamilton Street Site, the housing agency recommended the sale of 16 older Kawartha Lakes Haliburton Housing units and replace them with 26 new housing units with 16 being rented as rent-geared-to-income through a rent supplement agreement between the City and Housing Corporation.
And for the Lindsay Street North Site, it was recommended to sell 11 older units and replace them with 16 new affordable rental units.
