Affordable housing project
An affordable housing project in Lindsay was officially recognized last week.
Bond by the River, a project by the Kawartha Lakes Haliburton Housing Corporation, was made possible by selling some of their older housing units to long time tenants and using a portion of the funds to build new homes.
The cost of the Bond by the River project was $3.5 million, with $1.8 million in revenue from the sale of older homes.
The new housing development, has 12 three-bedroom townhouse units, with a monthly rental of just under one thousand dollars each, about twenty percent less than the average market price and nine of the units have a rent geared-to-income subsidy available.
There is an urgent need for housing in Kawartha Lakes and Haliburton, as more than 1,700 households are on a centralized waiting list for affordable housing.
