The family of a 30-year-old man who died at the Lindsay Super Jail has filed a 14.3-million-dollar lawsuit against the province and the guards at the facility.
Soleiman Faqiri's relatives allege he was the victim of cruel and unusual punishment, battery, negligence and abuse of public office.
They say a witness has provided information alleging guards used excessive force.
Faqiri suffered from schizophrenia and was awaiting a transfer to a mental health facility in December 2016.
Provincial police recently opened an investigation into the death after Kawartha Lakes police ended their probe without charges.
