Fire at vacant factory in Lindsay under investigation

The Ontario Fire Marshal’s office is investigating the cause of a fire that tore through a vacant Lindsay factory early Saturday morning.

Firefighters got the call shortly after 3 a.m. for a structure fire at the former Northern Plastic Lumber Inc. factory at 77 St. David Street and according to City of Kawartha Lakes District Fire Chief Dave Kish, the former plant was “fully involved” when firefighters arrived.

It took 45 firefighters from 7 halls to battle the blaze before rendering it under control at 5:45 a.m.

“[The OFM] is currently on scene to investigate the cause and determination due to the size of the building and dollar value,” said Kish.

Kish added since the building was vacant, there was no active hydro to the building at the time of the blaze.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Kawartha Lakes Police or Crime Stoppers.

A damage estimate has yet to be determined.
