Job action in Whitby in support of GM
Unifor says workers at a Whitby company that supplies seats to the GM plant in Oshawa walked off the job Friday.
Union leader Jerry Dias says the 350 workers at Lear Corporation are showing solidarity with 26-hundred autoworkers who will lose their jobs if G-M goes ahead with its planned closure of the Oshawa plant by the end of the year.
Unifor says the Oshawa closure will also likely lead to job losses at Lear -- one of several suppliers it says will be impacted.
Dias says the workers and the union are demanding government action to help protect jobs.
GM is the largest employer of workers in Lindsay.
