Money for City
The City of Kawartha Lakes will be receiving over $5.6 million in one time additional funding for 2019, from the Federal and Provincial governments.
The Federal Gas Tax Funding of about $4.66 million, is to be used for infrastructure projects including roads and bridges; regional and local airports; broadband connectivity; public transit; drinking water; waste; culture and tourism.
Provincial Funding of 725 thousand dollars is to be used to help modernize service delivery and reduce costs through investment in projects such as the development of shared services agreements and capital investments.
Plus the province is handing out a lump sum of $225,000 to assist with the implementation and impact of legalized cannabis for such things as policing and by-law enforcement.
City staff is recommending that Council place the funds into a Contingency Reserve to be available as needed in the future.
