The Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge District Health Unit is issuing a warning to residents who draw their water from the Scugog River after a sewage spill occurred yesterday (tues) at the Colborne Street pumping station in Lindsay.
The spill released 126,000 litres of raw sewage released into the river and was contained in about 20 minutes.
Residents have to ensure they use a proper filtration and disinfection system before drinking the water.
The Health Unit says the impact of the spill on the water quality would be minimal but residents living downstream from the pumping station should be aware of the spill and take precautions.
The City of Kawartha Lakes is investigating the cause of the spill.
