Urgent appeal for food donations

The Kawartha Lakes Food Source's shelves are more or less bare.

The Food Source's Christine Bone says they've had a significant jump in the number of clients accessing food banks in the area.

A normal month sees about 800 people access food banks but that number has jumped to about 1,100.

Donations of rice, soup, canned meat and stew, cheerios, pasta sauce and pasta, pancake mix and syrup, quaker chewy bars, baby cereal, baby food and formula are urgently needed.

Though the reason behind the sudden increase in clients is unknown, some speculate it could be in part, the cancellation of the Basic Income Pilot Project.

The Food Source operates a centralized distribution centre and provides food to member organizations on a monthly basis
