A Lindsay woman has been defrauded of nearly fifteen thousand dollars after a person posing as a bank employee talked her into purchasing numerous gift cards.
The woman received a call from the person on March 7th, who told her, her bank account had been compromised and to help with the investigation, the person had her purchase 83 gift cards worth fourteen thousand, nine hundred and fifty dollars over several days.
The caller then had her provide the activation numbers from the back of the cards and told her not to report the investigation to police or her bank branch.
The woman became suspicious and went to her bank in Lindsay where she was told she had been defrauded.
Kawartha Lakes Police warn the public to be cautious when receiving telephone calls from persons reporting to be employees of a bank, the Canada Revenue Agency or other seemingly real institutions.
