B-52s Anniversary Tour Includes One Canadian Show
The B-52s have announced they are hitting the road to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the band’s self-titled debut album.
"Who knew that when we played our first house dance party in Athens, Georgia in 1976 that we would be still be rocking the house in 2019,” said vocalist Kate Pierson, in a statement.
Frontman Fred Schneider added: “Dust off those go-go boots and shine your dancing shoes because the B-52s are coming.”
The tour kicks off May 4 in Florida and includes a show in Toronto on Sept. 13 – two days before the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts officially becomes Meridian Hall.
Tickets go on sale Friday.
“Visiting over 10 countries to perform for our fans around the globe makes us so incredibly happy,” said singer Cindy Wilson. “Let’s rock!”
Opening for The B-52s on select dates will be Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark and Berlin.
The B-52s have had hits like “Rock Lobster,” “Love Shack” and “Roam.”
The group’s name appeared grammatically incorrect (as the B-52’s) on album covers until it was corrected on 2008’s Funplex.
