10th St bridge design confirmed
Owen Sound council has decided to keep the same design when the 10th Street bridge is replaced next year.
There had been discussion of making changes that could improve traffic flow but in the end council agreed with a staff recommendation that it wasn't worth the extra time or money.
They looked at changing the traffic flow on the northern most lane of the bridge making it east bound only in the morning and west bound only in the afternoon.
However it would cost at least another million dollars and more time while city staff say there were no guarantees it would improve flow in the downtown.
In fact it could actually make things worse along 10th Street and 2nd Ave East.
The majority of councillors agreed - all except Peter Lemon.
The city is up against a deadline of March 2021 in order to receive the $3 million provincial grant off the $7.5 million dollar price tag.
Construction is expected to start next October with a desired completion date 12-14 months later.
