Man on scooter hit by car in Owen Sound

A 76 year old Shallow lake man has been charged by Owen Sound Police after a collision near the mall on Tuesday.

Just after 3:00 p.m.  police received a report of a man who'd been hit by a car  in the 1300 block of 16th Street East.

Police arrived on the scene to find a male pinned under his mobility scooter at the crosswalk.

EMS and Owen Sound Fire Service attended to assist.

The investigation revealed that the male had been travelling east bound on 16th Street East crossing the entrance to the mall with the right of way.

A vehicle exiting the mall struck the scooter causing it to topple over, pinning the victim.

He was eventually transported to Owen Sound hospital for non life threatening injuries.

The driver of the car was charged with failing to yield to a pedestrian.

Drivers are reminded to pay close attention for mobility scooters using the sidewalk since they are particularly vulnerable due to the low height.

Police would also like to recognize the assistance offered by several citizens who were in the area at the time.
