Owen Sound driver asleep behind the wheel
On Friday January 4th,at around 2:50 p.m. Owen Sound police arrived in the area of 800 block of 1st Avenue West to investigate a complaint of two males asleep in a vehicle.
The officers observed the driver slumped over the steering wheel and the passenger slumped forward in the passenger front seat.
The 2014 Dodge Caravan was also found to be running and in gear.
The officers were able to get the driver out of the vehicle and determined he was impaired.
Located on the driver’s seat officers found a substance believed to be Fentanyl.
34 year old Chad Dykstra of Southampton was arrested without incident.
He was also found to be in possession of “brass knuckles” which is a prohibited weapon.
Dykstra was held in custody on the charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance, Operation of a Motor Vehicle while Impaired, Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Weapon, and Failing to Comply with Conditions of his previous Undertaking.
Saturday morning Dykstra was released from custody on his own recognizance during bail court proceedings with took place out of the London Court.
He is to appear next in the Owen Sound Court on the 17th of January 2019.
