Owen Sound police arrest grandmother

A 67 year old Georgian Bluffs woman is facing a number of charges after making some poor choices as a grandmother.

A citizen called Owen Sound police Tuesday morning to report a woman driving in downtown Owen Sound with a baby in her arms while smoking a cigarette.

Police pulled her over on 1st Avenue West.

Their investigation confirmed that the woman was driving with a one year old child and a 3 year old unsecured in the vehicle.

The one year old was sitting on the centre console of the vehicle and the 3 year old was seated, unbuckled, in the front passenger seat.

The vehicle was found to have no child safety seats in it.

Child and Family services were also dispatched to the scene to assist in the investigation.

In the end the woman was issued a total of eight tickets by police under the Highway Traffic Act and Smoke Free Ontario Act with fines totalling $1445.00 dollars.

It is illegal to smoke in the car while children are present.

Grey Bruce Child and Family Services assisted in getting the children safely home.
