Similarities between several day time break ins

Two different OPP detachments in our region  are investigating a string of day time break ins with very similar details however police have not officially connected the dots.

It started when Grey County OPP were called to investigate an attempted break in on Grey Road 40 in Grey Highlands Tuesday afternoon after a woman says someone tried to smash in her front door then took off in a white vehicle when they discovered she was home.

While officers were investigating that incident, they got a call about another that had taken place a few km away on the 7th Line of Meaford.

This time a number of items were stolen including a flat screen tv, jewellery, booze and a security box with personal documents.

Police continue to investigate these crimes with the assistance of the OPP Forensic Identification Unit - Mount Forest.

We also received a release from Wellington County OPP regarding a day time attempted break in south of Mount Forest later that day.

An 85 year old resident confronted two men he says kicked in his back door.

They fled in a white vehicle.

OPP responded and canvassed the area.

The getaway vehicle was located by officers when suspects attempted to conceal themselves at another property in behind a barn.

Police were able to arrest one male and one female however the second male fled on foot.

After a lengthy pursuit officers were able catch and arrest the suspect.

Police are currently investigating the origin of numerous pieces of property recovered within the vehicle including a flat screen tv, jewellery, booze and a security box.  (see attached photo)
