The Municipality of West Grey has announced all large household items will be diverted from the Durham Landfill as of September 1, 2019 in order to bolster a composting program and extend the life of the site.

“West Grey continues its efforts to be responsible stewards of the environment,” said Mayor Christine Robinson. “Diverting some of the larger landfill items from our Durham site will lengthen the life of the site and free up space to provide a centre for the composting program.”

Residents are being asked to take all unwanted furniture or anything with treated or glued wood to the Bentinck Landfill on Grey Road 3, north of Lamlash.

The Durham Landfill will continue to take non-treated wood, brush, recycling and bagged household garbage.

A shredding machine is being brought in to reduce the pile of current items. The material created will then be used as a cover for the landfill and the space where these items were contained will become an improved centre for the composting program.

The Municipality thanks residents for their cooperation.

The Bentinck Landfill is located at 114079 Grey Road 3 and is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m
