There's more to this than meets the eye. Gord Downie's godfather is Harry Sinden. Sinden coached Bobby Orr and the Boston Bruins to their first Stanley Cup in 29 years. Two years later in 1972, Sinden coached Team Canada and teamates Orr and Paul Henderson, who "pulled the trigger" on the winning goal of the Summit Series. Both immortalized in The Hip's song "Fireworks"

If there's a goal that everyone remembers,

It was back in ol' 72

We all squeezed the stick and we all pulled the trigger

And all I remember is sitting beside you

You said you didn't give a fuck about hockey

And I never saw someone say that before

You held my hand and we walked home the long way

You were loosening my grip on Bobby Orr

One more fact, "According to the book Have Not Been The Same Since: The CanRock Renaissance, 1985-1995, Downie’s godfather is Harry Sinden, former coach of the Boston Bruins. Sinden was a also a real estate developer who helped Downie’s parents find their home in Amherstview, Ont."
