Cigarette "Butt Bins" Being Installed Downtown, At Transit Hubs

You will soon notice a new addition to Downtown Kingston, and the city's main transit hubs.

The City and Downtown Kingston have teamed up to install 20 cigarette butt receptacles, as part of their "keep it clean initiative."

"We are working to keep the downtown and transit hubs clean. This is about encouraging people to dispose of cigarette butts in a tidy and environmentally friendly way," says Troy Stubinski, Public Works Operations Manager.

The tobacco in the butts will be composted will the rest of the material will be recycled into industrial products, like plastic pallets.
