Downtown High-Rise Appeal Underway

An appeal hearing that will determine the fate of two proposed highrise buildings on the North Block site downtown is underway.

Homestead Land Holdings is asking the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal to have the city approve an official plan amendment and a zoning bylaw, that would allow the construction of a 19-storey building on Queen Street, and a 23-storey building near Queen and Ontario.

The appeal, which will be heard over the course of a ten-day hearing, is being sought by Homestead as the company feels it was taking the city too long to make a decision on the approvals necessary for the project to move forward.
