Weekend Fires A Reminder of the Need For Working Smoke Detectors: Kingston Fire
Kingston Fire and Rescue says a couple of weekend fires should serve as a reminder to have working smoke detectors on every storey of your home, and the need to practice fire prevention daily.
It's believed that careless smoking caused a fire on Evangeline Avenue in the west end around 11:30 am Saturday, while flames tore through an apartment building on Adelaide Street, causing $150,000 worth of damage around 11:20 pm. No damage estimate was provided for the blaze on Evangeline Avenue. An exact cause of the Adelaide Street fire was not provided, but an investigation is on-going.
Fortunately no one was badly hurt in these fires, though two people were treated for smoke inhalation and shortness of breath. The Canadian Red Cross found lodging for residents displaced by the Adelaide Street fire.
