April Ice Storm Expected This Weekend

Rain, freezing rain, ice pellets, and snow.

According to Environment Canada, that's what is on the agenda for the weekend as a potential ice storm moves into the region.

A special weather statement and a Freezing Rain warning is in effect for most of Southern Ontario, including the Kingston area.

The rain that will begin on Friday is expected to change to freezing rain early Saturday morning,  and may continue for a few hours before morphing into ice pellets.

On Sunday, more freezing rain is expected to fall, before changing over to snow or rain later in the day.

Ahead of the wacky weather, The Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority issued a watershed safety statement.

Localized ponding and flooding in low-lying areas is likely, although widespread flooding is not expected.

Ice accumulation could exceed 20 millimetres before the showers taper off on Monday.
