Boater Charged with Impaired

An Amherstview man is facing a charge of impaired boating after a report of a missing jet skier turned out to be a false alarm.
OPP were called to the scene when the driver and a female passenger, who were both wearing life jackets, were tossed into Lake Ontario near Bath on Saturday when they hit a large wave and high winds.
The woman was picked up by a nearby boater and taken to shore, but police and the Coast Guard began a search when the driver could not be found.
The OPP say the man, 33, was charged after he was later located at the boat launch after swimming to shore.

The accused was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to make his first court appearance on August 29.
