City Council Approves Pay Raises for Mayor and Councillors
Those who are elected to City Council this fall, will be getting a raise.
At Tuesday night's meeting, Council voted on a citizens committee recommendation to pay Councillors $40,000 a year and for the Mayor's salary to be bumped up to just over $116,000.
The pay raise won't come into effect until December of this year, after the municipal election.
City Council also backed up a new motion moved by Mary Rita Holland to amend a licensing bylaw, that would limit the number and location of payday loan stores to no more than one per electoral district.
City staff will now review best practices on how to move forward, and report back to council.
City Council agreed to move ahead with a beautification project on Princess and Division for a total cost estimated at $310,000 for the first phase.
